A World Lit Only By Fire by William Manchester
An interesting examination of medievil Europe. He spends a lot of time documenting the corruption and greed of the Catholic Church in the shaping of Europe at the time —yet in the end states it was the Church’s absolute power than prevented Europe from falling into anarchy. I found it scholarly, but worth the effort to read. I see it is not in paperback and audio CD.
